David Lindow - Senior Pastor
Pastor David Lindow is a native born Texan reared in the southeast town of Vidor, Texas. His undergraduate work was done at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. While attending the university, David met and married his wife, Lisa. He completed the Master of Divinity program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary while serving the First Baptist Church of Possum Kingdom as Minister of Students and Music. God called David here to First Baptist Church of Universal City in 1992 as the Minister of Youth and Young Singles. In 1996, he was moved by the church to the position of Associate Pastor and later that same year, upon the retirement of Pastor Tommy Grozier, was called as the interim pastor. Eight months later he was determined to be God's called undershepherd for First Baptist. While serving here at FBCUC, God has gifted David and Lisa with the adoption of two girls, Kalli and MiKayla. Apart from his love for the Father, his family, and church, Pastor David is an avid sailor and woodworker. His recently completed project was a 22 foot cat-ketch rigged sailboat named Sophia. His life verse comes from Psalm 84:7, "They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion."
Bryan Cash - Executive Pastor
Bryan was born in Sherman, Texas. He grew up in a minister’s home and felt his own call to the ministry at the age of 20. He graduated from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas, earning a Business degree. He went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where, over time, he would eventually earn two degrees and finish with a Doctor of Educational Ministry degree. Bryan married Carol after meeting at East Texas Baptist College. He went home to see Carol’s parents one weekend and her father, who had been out catching shrimp as a hobby that day, had arrived home with 300 lbs. of shrimp. Bryan said he loves shrimp so much that he got down on his knee and asked Carol to marry him right then! They have two sons, Jordan and Jared, who have also been called to the ministry. He began serving on our staff in 1997. Bryan is always rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs! In fact, he seems to be able to frequently work the Cowboys into his sermons somehow! One of his favorite verses is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
Charles Colvin - Minister of Worship
Charles was born in Cleveland, TX and lived on a sawmill the first 18 years of his life. He was saved at 7 years of age and called into the ministry at approximately 16 years of age. He attended Houston Baptist University and received his Bachelor of Arts in Christianity and Music with applied voice. He served his first church his freshman year (1972) in college as a part-time associate of youth ministry at West University Baptist Church in Houston. The summer after his freshman year, he became the summer youth and youth music minister at Oakridge Baptist Church in Spring, Texas. The church called him as part-time youth and youth music minister year round and he served there for 3 years. After graduation, the church called him as full-time youth, youth music and recreation director. He left for seminary after 8 months in this position. He received his Master of Church Music Degree in 1978, having served Meadowlane Baptist Church. He began as youth and youth music minister and became Music and Youth minister. While at this church, he and Billie met and married. Upon graduation, they were called to Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa, Tx and served there 3 years as Music and Youth Minister. They were then called to College Hills Baptist Church in San Angelo, TX. He was the Music and Youth Minister for over 7 years. During this time, their sons, Jeremy and Joel were born. In 1988, First Baptist Church of Universal City called him as Minister of Music and Youth. In 1992, the church called David Lindow as Minister of Youth and Single Adults and moved Charles to Minister of Music and Senior Adults. In 1996, he became the Minister of Worship and have served in this capacity since. Billie and Charles enjoy water sports, physical fitness, playing table games, home building and repair, being with their kids and grandkids, fellowshipping and serving. His favorite Bible verses are John 3:16, John 14:1-6.
Scott Blevins - Minister to Young & Median Adults & Assimilation
Scott was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He felt the call to ministry at age 18. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, earning an applied ministry degree in Youth Ministry. He went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a masters degree in Educational Ministry. Scott and his wife Leah were married in 1996. They have three children named Zachary, Abigail, and Eden. He began serving on our staff at FBCUC in 2009. One of his favorite life verses is "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" Proverbs 3:5-6.
Jim Lokey - Minister of Students
Jim began serving as Minister of Students and Recreation at FBC in October 2007. He and his wife Jen have two sons named Hudson and Caleb. Jim received his Bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and his Master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 16:8.
Christine Povolish - Interim Administrator of First Baptist Academy
Christine Povolish currently serves as the Head Administrator of First Baptist Academy. Along with her administrative duties, she also serves as an Intervention Specialist, teaching students in the structure of the English language in a multisensory manner. She first began teaching and serving with FBA in 2005-2006 as a 6th grade Math, Language Arts, and Science teacher. At that time, her service at FBA came to a pause as she moved with her husband who was in the military.
Christine attended Wright State University, located in Dayton, OH for her Bachelor of Arts Degree. As her kids got older, God began to build in her the desire to become an administrator. As such, she pursued her Master of Education degree with a concentration in teacher leadership and with a minor in curriculum and instruction. As years passed, God continued to mold her into aligning with her husband’s calling as a pastor and her calling as an educator in Christian Education, thus returning to school to receive a Master of Christian Leadership degree through Liberty University, located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Christine and her husband have three children: Christen, Jeffrey II, and Joshua, whom God has blessed them with. Jeff and Christine have been honored to see each of their children grow in their faith through Christian education so that they may go out into the world and serve in whatever God is calling them to do. One of the greatest blessings and honor for Christine is to be able to serve you and your children in teaching them for time and eternity. Her family’s prayer for you as you walk with your child in Christian education and life may be found in Colossians 1:3, 9 “We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you…For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.”
Juan Graciamaria - Spanish Ministry Pastor
Steve Miller - Associate Minister of Missions Ministry
Steve was born in Wichita, Kansas and was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Air Force for 30 years and as a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton for 7 years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech. He went on to earn Master of Arts from Central Michigan University and a Master of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife KaJean have three children (Krista, Lindsey, and Nathan). They also have three grandchildren. He began serving on our staff in 2012. His philosophy for missions is making the Gospel visible for every people group worldwide. His favorite Bible verses are Philippians 4:13 and Psalm 16:8.
Charles Fannin - Associate Minister of Senior Adult Ministry
Charles has been serving as the Associate Minister of Senior Adults since 2007. He and his wife Carolyn have been married over 50 years and they have two daughters named Lisa and Laurie. They also have 4 grandchildren. Charles served for 50 years as a Pastor and 5 years as a Hospital Chaplian. He received his Bachelor’s degree from East Texas Baptist University and a Master of Divinty from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Jim Cagle - Associate Minister of Pastoral Care
Having grown up in the southern Illinois town of Marion, Jim came to Texas to attend Baylor University. Following graduation Jim joined the Navy and served 5 years most of that time as a medical technologist at the hospital in Key West, Fl. It was while in Key West that Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior then followed the Lord’s call to serve Him in the Christian education ministry. After receiving his Master’s degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Jim served as Minister of Education at Baptist Temple in Victoria, First Baptist Church Universal City and Crossroads Baptist Church in San Antonio. God opened a new ministry to Jim for the next 25 years as a teacher and administrator in Christian schools. He retired from Bracken Christian School in Bulverde where he served for nine years as Secondary Principal. He and his wife, Linn, have five grown children and seven grandchildren.
Anthony Owens - Associate Minister of College & 20's Singles Ministry
Anthony holds a Bachelors of Science in Biology from UT San Antonio. He also has a Masters of Science in Biology from UT San Antonio. He and his wife Cynthia were married in 2004. They have two children named Kallie Grace and Sarah Faith. They are expecting their third child in June 2013. He started serving on staff in 2012. His favorite Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 10:13. He also enjoy running, cycling, swimming, cooking and reading a good book. He has a huge passion for working with our young, single adults. When thinking about the fact that the church will very soon be in their hands, it is truly incredible to see our college students grow in the Word and develop/hone their spiritual gifts for God’s glory and the work of His kingdom. He is excited to see what God is doing now and will do in the future as this generation moves forward in and through Him.
Johnathon Powers - Associate Minister of Recreation & Students
Johnathon have been married to his lovely wife, Mikayla, for almost two years now and they have a six month old golden retriever named Minnie. God called him to ministry during his last 2 years of high school and he believes that He has called him specifically to student ministry. His student ministry was a big influence on his life when he was younger and he wants to be a part of that for others. He has been a member of First Baptist Church of Universal City since he was 7 years old. He also attended FBA from the age of 4 all the way through high school. After graduating, he attended Texas State University in San Marcos. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science with a minor in political science summa cum laude. Now, he is serving as Associate of Recreation and Students here at FBC while attending Southwestern Seminary. He loves the opportunities God has blessed him with and he is grateful for the constant support of his ministry from this church family.
Connor Palmer - Associate of Student Ministry
Connor was saved when he was about 5 years old, and was blessed to be able to be raised in a Christian home where he was always encouraged to grow in his faith. During his freshman year of high school, he began to take his relationship with Christ seriously. His youth pastor at the time helped him to take ownership of his faith and gave him opportunities to serve in his youth group. After struggling to figure out a college and career plan, he surrendered his desires to the Lord and allowed Him to lead. A short time later, Jim Lokey contacted him and invited him to intern in the youth ministry here at First Baptist. Over the course of that internship he realized that God was calling him to give his life to ministry. He is currently serving as an Associate of Student Ministry here at First Baptist, and he plans to continue to serve in student ministry until God calls him elsewhere. He is also currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Religion: Christian Ministries at Liberty University Online to aid him in his ministry.
Darla Fletcher - Associate of Children's Ministries
Darla is the Associate of Children’s Ministries. Being a military family, this is their third time back to San Antonio since 1996 and each time, they come home to First Baptist Church. Her husband, Chad, and she met and got married in 1989 when he was at his first duty station in Fort Polk, Louisiana. They have five beautiful daughters, Allyson, Aimee, Danielle, Eileen and Alysia. It has been her joy to serve in Preschool and Children’s ministries for over 25 years! "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." (3 John 1:4)
LuVon Wood - Associate of Preschool Ministries
Luvon was born and reared in the Rio Grande Valley. Her family joined the FBCUC family in 1994. She began serving as a volunteer in ETC, Sunday School, and was an AWANA Leader before becoming part of the nursery staff. She has served as the Nursery & ETC Coordinator for the last 11 years, an in June 2015, the Lord called her to serve as the Associate of Preschool Ministries. She is so excited to see what the Lord has planned for the Preschool Ministry!
She and her husband, Del celebrated 33 wonderful years of marriage and their greatest blessings are their children: Lindsey, their daughter and her husband Chris; their son Hunter; and their youngest daughter Morgan. They are truly blessed!
Her favorite verse that God continually shows her is Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
Rodney Payton - Orchestra Director
Rodney was born in Missouri and lived there until his family moved to San Antonio when he was eleven years old. At the age of 10 he accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of his life. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene and met his wife, Djuana, in the music department there. He did graduate work at Criswell College in Dallas, Texas and at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Since 1990, he has served as Minister of Music in various churches has also worked as a school Band Director. Rodney is excited about the beauty, majesty, and power that instrumental music can bring to the corporate worship experience. God has blessed Rodney and Djuana with three children and three grandchildren. One of his favorite scripture passages is Psalm 33:1-3, "Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy."
Gideon Roberts - Associate Contemporary Worship Leader
Gideon is a native of Texas. He became a believer at a young age. Over the past ten years he has been a Worship Ministry leader for youth, young adults and large group gatherings. He leads two music groups, Renevus and The Eloquence, and is active in the FBCUC church life. He enjoys traveling, little adventures, writing, healthy living, board games and game sound tracks. His favorite move is, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." His passion is writing and performing music as an opportunity to authentically connect with others and share the love of Christ. He also treasures exploring the goodness of God through creation, His Word and revelation, and through His people.
